On his show, Maher said the follwing:

"But I have zero doubt that if Dick Cheney was not in power, people wouldn閳ユ獩 be dying needlessly tomorrow.

I閳ユ獡 just saying if he did die, other people, more people would live. That閳ユ獨 a fact."

He did not wish death upon Cheney, he simply said that fewer people would die if Cheney were dead.

Just for the record, Maher is a combination of Libertarian and liberal.

Coulter's first comment about Edwards:

There's a bit of irony here; Coulter, a political opinion commentator, was making a failed attempt at humor. Bill Maher, a political comedian, was simply commenting on his own opinion. (I saw the show when it aired live). Bill never said he WISHED Cheney had gotten killed. Just commented on the if possibility.

Personally, I wasn't offended by Coulter's "other f-word" comment but realize that there exist a segment of the population that would be. Both statements need to be examined in the context in which they were delivered and not blown out of proportion.

Btw, did you see Coulter squirming in her chair? Kudos to Elizabeth Edwards!

Maher is a comedian who is generally insightful, and pretty damned funny.

Coulter is a sociopath who needs to continually raise the level of outrage on her comments in order to get noticed, and sell some books. She needs the shock value of her comments because she's got nothing else.
