Thoughts on Chuck Hagel's comments today ?

Senator Chuck Hagel (R - Nebrasksa) has a very long and consistent record of voting conservatively on virtually all issues. He is (like Kerry and Murtha) a Vietnam veteran. Like those two, he thought the lessons of Vietnam would apply to the Iraq debacle and would have prevented Bush from dragging this country into such a long and domestically destructive war effort.

In his comments (in a book coming out today), he said that he has lost virtually all of his good standing within his party, simply because he has disagreed with BushCo war policy. He also says that this country is in desperate need of a third party, or at least independent thinking leaders. He feels that his party and the power-elite in DC are owned by NeoCon / PNAC dominated interests and that the will of the people is not being represented.

We have the party, it just isn't strong enough, vote libertarian

I have a lot of respect of Hagel and I think that he is correct in his judgement of the GOP. The real "Republican" philosphy left the party a long time ago. They still try to claim that they are the party of less spending when they have increased spending tremendously in the last 7 years. Religion has become a driving force in the party more than the issues that matter.

You know, when you toss in terms like "BushCo", you might as well be screaming, "All I read is left wing hater sites!"

Free Speech

gotta love it and he is free to speak his mind.

He provides me with no reason to change my mind about the war on Iraq.

That is what you really want to know.

The reason is because we are already there and hind sight is 20-20 and means nothing.

We have to get this right in Iraq or it is going to bite us in the back like after we left after Blackhawk down. That inspire bin laden to pull 9/11 on us.

Murtha has lost his standing yes he is a vet but after calling his fellow Marines cold blooded murders before the trail began than they were cleared of charges and never apologized. His was good but now that doesn't matter how wrong he was.

Kerry doesn't have medals he threw them away in protest of the Vietnam war.

Kerry is also the one who called our troops terrorists and stupid.

McCain who suffer in the Hanio Hilton thinks it is a good idea and he never smear the troops.

Hagel is hardly an example of a conservative. He is a moderate, which is to say liberal, although surely not as far to the left as the Democratic Party and its leadership. That is why he finds himself without a party: too liberal for the Republican Party, not liberal enough for the Dems. His stance on Iraq is not the only reason he fell from his lofty perch.
