So, it seems that Yahoo publishes these online articles, which will be followed by a "Leave a Comment". The article always shows the first 50 comments that were posted, and while it invites you to leave a comment... it seems like there is no way to see any comment beyond the first 50. Is there anyway of seeing the additional comments, or is Yahoo more interested in self promotion, than in giving people a means for expression of speech?

As far as I know, there's no way to see more than the 1st 50 comments but you're right, we should be able to see them all and it's discouraging to submit something if no one's going to see it.
