I'm working on report card comments for my elementary students. I keep thinking of the same comments as the last quarter. Any advice on freshing this comments up???
What kind of comments do you give in the third quarter?
I like to give a two or three sentence summary maybe highlighting the growth they have shown in any one particular area, and also if they are struggling in a subject I emphasize that they would benefit by working on that skill at home (math facts or high frequency words). I try to keep it fairly low key since 4th quarter will be either accolades for progress made or recommendations for retention!

Use comments that reflect on where the students are in regards to the next grade. Instead of saying "(Name) is reading at grade level and will need to continue to read independently to substain his current fluency rate." Say something like, "(Name) is now working toward the goal for (grade). They will be looking for strong ...skills."
I also try to give different details if it is the same. For example talk about something they excelled in during this quarter.

From a third grade teacher in Montana:
I tell them what the students will be studying in Math and Science the next quarter. I tell them how many Accelerated Reader points their child has earned so far this year. I tell them to keep working on their mulitiplication facts, as it is very important for their future in math. I encourage them to keep reading a lot of great books. I also make comments like they are a pleasure to have in class, if that is the case. Keep working hard. I write that they are very reliable, attentive to lessons, they are a positive role model for others, maintains great attendance, and organized in their work habits. I think if I can give a lot of praise for different things it will build positive attitudes about school. I also included any items they need to work on to improve work or work habits the next quarter.
